A Performance Day A show, workshops and a special after school or evening performance for parents and friends. In a Performance Day, Travelling by Tuba are resident in one school for a whole day. The day culminates in a 60-minute performance by large groups of children with Chris and Stewart. Each group performs a different piece of music learnt during the day in a concert for parents, grandparents and friends. Following a performance of one of Travelling by Tuba’s three award-winning shows, the day is divided into workshop sessions. Each workshop creates a different piece of music for performance by the children either directly after school or in the evening— whichever best suits the school. Themes for the workshops include: 1. Brazilian Samba: Using a Brazilian Surdo Drum and specially learnt rhythms with hand percussion. 2. Football Fugue: A fugue based on football club names. 3. Hand Chimes: Play an array of tunes with Suzuki Tone Chimes (Similar to Hand Bells). 4. New Orleans Jazz: Sousaphone and hand percussion in a swingin’ style. 5. Boom ta ta Boom: A specially learnt song with actions for children and audience! 6. The Six Days of Music Lessons: Based on The Twelve Days of Christmas. 7. Mexican Salsa: An infectious Latin American dance rhythm. 8. Spanish Tango: Feel the laid-back, hypnotic Spanish beat. In addition, many schools like to learn a song from Travelling by Tuba’s children’s operetta “The Tuba Has Landed”. A rehearsal CD and music are sent out in advance and the song is rehearsed with tuba and piano on the day. School ensembles can also take a spot in the concert and we will always do our best to meet any themed requests. Special Christmas performances are also possible. Each day is individually designed to suit each schools needs and abilities. The workshop sessions can be tailored for Keystage 1 or 2 as required. On average, approximately 120 children are involved in the evening performance. |
